Brain Power

The master controlling organ in the body is the least thought about. We have to think about how to nourish this organ and train the brain to get stronger and function optimally. I have had to overcome 2 brain traumas in my lifetime. If you or someone you know plays sports or even rides skateboards, please make sure they are wearing all the proper safety gear. We may have a hard skull but it is protecting a jelly-like ball of fat that is our brain. I have since recovered fully through nutrition and brain therapies that have changed my life. Today let’s explore ways to help us strengthen our brains and improve our memory.

Nutrition

The brain is a fat based organ. Brains utilize fatty acids that we consume from fatty fish or plant based sources like hemp seeds, chia seeds, algae oil, and coconut oil. So, the most important tool in nutrition for your brain is fat.

  • Try taking a high quality Omega 3 fat, either animal or plant based.
  • Eat more coconut oil and grass fed butter.
  • Eat less carbohydrates and excess protein.

The brain also craves stimulation from different herbs. There is a class of herbs called nootropics that contain phytochemicals that stimulate the brain and improve brain function.

  • Mucuna Puriens contains a brain boosting phytochemical called Leva Dopa. Leva Dopa will stimulate the brain to make a stronger connection to the physical body.
  • Ashwaganda is an herb that increases memory and strengthens the nerves of the brain.
  • Bacopa is an herb that is proven to increase short term memory and strengthen the brain. Boosting brain function helps you increase intelligence with new information you learn.

Brain Exercises

The brain needs stimulation and in our modern day it’s so easy to have a lazy brain. We weaken our brains by vegging out on TV or games. The brain wants to learn and utilize new information. This is why reading, learning, and playing brain stimulating games is important.

  • I like to read to learn about things I enjoy, such as nutrition and science.
  • I also like to use eyelights, a pair of brain stimulating glasses you can find at www.eyelights.com.
  • I also play music and listen to music to stimulate my brain. The average popular song today is written at a 3rd grade level. I listen to complicated and complex music. As your brain changes the need for complexity and expansion begins to increase.

Brain Toxicity

  • Stay away from fluoride in toothpaste, tap water, and toxic drugs.
  • Stay away from bad fats that are hydrogenated.
  • Stay away from heavy metals by not using toxic paints and cleaners in your home.
  • Mercury fillings need to be removed as they will directly affect the brain and nervous system.

Conclusion

In a world where we are filled with things that dumb us down, we need to fight back to stimulate our brains. We need to get rid of toxicity and start supporting the brain and our overall intelligence. Stay tuned for our next blog where we will explore how to shield yourself from our modern toxic world.
