MAGNESIUM THE MASTER MINERAL

In all my study of health and nutrition there is one master mineral that is not talked about more than magnesium. When you go from having a magnesium deficiency to having plenty in your system you can experience many health benefits that it will amaze you. Americans are the most deficient in the mineral due to our poor soil quality and a lack of raw fruit and vegetable intake. If you’re stressed daily, crave sweet foods, consume soda, or coffee you can bet your experiencing symptoms of a deficiency without knowing.

Symptoms of a magnesium deficiency are as follows:

  • Trouble sleeping
  • Craving sweet foods
  • Lack of energy
  • Muscle cramps and aches
  • Heart Palpitations
  • Irregularity in the digestive track
  • Edema
  • Tics or twitching in the body

This list above is only a fraction of the symptoms there are over 300 process in the body that use this mineral to function optimally. Let’s explore the health benefits, different forms, and ways you can take magnesium into the body.

Forms of Magnesium:

  • Citrate - this form of magnesium is good to draw water into the colon and help keep you regular daily. This is the most common and inexpensive form but still effective.
  • Malate - this form is highly absorbable and helps support the joints and muscles in the body. Malate comes from malic acid that is naturally present in apples and has an amazing ability to detoxify the body.
  • Chloride - this form is for topical use and comes in flakes, powder, or a topical rub. This form of magnesium bypasses the digestive tract and goes through the skin trans-dermally.

There are many other forms you will see in your local store but the 3 above are the ones that are the most effective.

Health Benefits of Using Magnesium:

  • Improved sleep - Magnesium will improve your sleep by supporting your central nervous system and muscles to relax.
  • Stress reduction - Your overall stress load on the body will begin to subside as you take magnesium. Stress reduction occurs due to improved digestion, elimination, and detoxification of the body.
  • Bone support - Magnesium regulates calcium in the body. With the standard American diet we have unusually high amounts of calcium in our blood that lead to issues like arthritis, heart problems, blockages in our veins and arteries, and constipation. Magnesium will help calcium absorb and the body eliminate any excess in the blood.
  • Immune function & detoxification - In the stomach is where 70% of your immune system resides. When you get enough magnesium daily you supply the body with a high amount of alkalinity which raises your PH making it harder for viruses, fungi, or bacteria to survive in your system. Magnesium is one of the most alkaline substances on the planet and can buffer the daily acid toxins like soda, coffee, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides we get from eating, breathing, and drinking daily.
  • Digestion - Magnesium can stop issues like heartburn and constipation in its tracts. When your digestive system begins to be regulated your will drink less coffee and sugar naturally. This reduction in caffeine and sugar is due to you not being backed up and having an environment in your colon where parasites and fungus dictate your cravings.

Ways to consume Magnesium:

  • Orally - this is the most common way. Any health food store will carry a high quality magnesium supplement. When choosing the right one for you make sure you are getting 400mg a day at minimum and take more if you are overly stressed or suffer from digestive issues.
  • Trans-dermally - In health food stores you can ask for magnesium flakes or oil. Taking a cup of magnesium flakes and adding it to your water is a relaxing way to absorb your magnesium through the skin. Magnesium oil if a topical spray that you use daily and can be sprayed and rubbed right on sore muscles.

I hope I have inspired you to go out and give magnesium a try. Next blog we will be covering Iodine and all of its amazing health benefits!
