The Cholesterol Myth

In my study, when I found out that eating saturated fat did not contribute to heart disease, I was floored. I didn't understand, as I grew up in the generation were my mom used margarine instead of butter, we ate low-fat everything, and I was so sick and unhealthy. I learned later in my life that saturated fats are good for you!, what I am saying is that everybody out there saying, "Eat a low-fat/high-carb diet" are wrong? That is exactly what I am saying. Fats and oils including cholesterol-rich ones help us build healthy hormones and burn fat. Let's explore how we can incorporate these healthy fats and oils in our diet and find out why this is true.

Butter will do your body good! No, I’m not telling you to go to Walmart and grab a stick of Land O' Lakes. I am talking about getting grass-fed, high quality oil that are rich in vitamins and minerals.

  • Butter is rich in the fatty acid CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) which helps burn fat and boost energy levels.
  • Butter has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties.
  • Cholesterol helps the body regulate many biochemical pathways in the cells.
  • Cholesterol helps nutrients pass into it the cells of the body and toxins to pass out.

So how could we be fooled into thinking that a fat-filled diet would lead to high cholesterol and heart attacks?

  • As you know, there is a lot of money poured into marketing and misleading research conducted on these issues.
  • When the need to sell more processed foods and low fat products came on the market, diet fads and junk science backed-up the selling of these cheap products and it was then that fat was demonized and disease increased.
  • Fats and oils don’t make you gain weight. It's the increase in carbohydrates and sugar.
  • There are vegans out there with many nutritional deficiencies on a high-carb diet and they have heart attacks, too. Paleo folks with great levels of cholesterol eat fat and protein at every meal.

I hope I have inspired you and educated you to eat more healthy fat!
