Facts about Wheatgrass

The Power of Greens

I consider the gross spinach and collard greens we were forced to eat as kids as the unsung heroes of nutrition. I never understood the importance of "eating your greens" and the health benefits they provided until I began to eat them a lot. Living in a very toxic and acidic world, we are surrounded by green plants. These green plants should remind us of the power to oxygenate and cleanse our bodies of the daily toxic waste. Let’s explore the forms, benefits, and ways to consume these superfoods.

Detoxification

Greens of all kinds contain a vast amount of chlorophyll - the detoxifying substances that give plants their green color. These molecules can detoxify our cells of acidic waste and give us a ton of energy.

  • By removing the acidic waste you should experience an increase of energy.
  • Greens are so strong at detoxifying the body that they act as an internal deodorant.

Greens and The Immune System

Greens are very complex and contain complex phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are plant chemicals created from photosynthesis. These are lacking in our diets in a major way.

  • Vitamins A and K are in abundance in greens and are two vital nutrients to support the immune system.
  • Kale for example has over 1200 phytochemical components and is currently being studied as a very effective anti-cancer treatment.
  • Getting these phytochemicals back in our diets will protect our immune system and provide us with lots of energy.
  • Greens help calm the body and contain more calcium in each serving than milk. This mineral can also help relax you.
  • Chewing greens helps relax your brain and release serotonin in the body.

Ways to Consume Greens

Let’s face it, greens are not the most pleasant taste to the pallet. There are a lot of ways to mask the taste and still receive a good daily dose of greens.

  • Mixing greens in a smoothie with choclate powder helps cut the green flavor.
  • Mixing greens with a citrus juice like orange or lemon helps cut the green flavor, as well.
  • Wheat grass shots! Only enduring the strong taste in a small amount is an easy way to get the greens down.
  • You can buy encapsulated greens supplements, as well, so you don’t have to worry about taste at all.

Try and eat a salad or drink a green juice everyday. Find some way to get more greens into your diet. Your body will become healthy and stronger eating greens. Stay tuned later this week when we discuss the power of root vegetables and their mineralizing effect on the body.
