Water fluoridation started in the 1940s and is still used in the water systems of most of America today. Dentists mistakenly claimed that as teeth developed, fluoride would incorporate into the matrix and make the teeth stronger for the remainder of the child’s life.
Consensuses among t dental researchers studying fluoridation submit that fluoride’s primary benefit is only topical and only after the teeth have erupted. Fluoride can cause fluorosis even as low as 1 ppm and fluorosis renders teeth more susceptible to decay.
Why then, are we swallowing fluoride if there is no benefit and we know that fluoride is systemically harmful, especially during infancy and early childhood? I certainly do not swallow sunscreen because it helps protect my skin from sun damage.
As the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) stated in 1999 “fluoride prevents dental caries predominately after eruption of the tooth into the mouth, and its actions primarily are topical for both adults and children.” The National Research Council agreed in 2006, stated, “The major anticaries benefit of fluoride is topical and not systemic.”
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released a statement in 1999:
“Fluoride prevents dental caries predominately after eruption of the tooth into the mouth, and its actions primarily are topical for both adults and children.”
In 2001, the CDC repeated their position that “fluoride’s predominant effect is post eruptive and topical.”
Dr. James Sumner, a Nobel Laureate biochemist at Cornell University:
“Everybody knows fluorine and fluorides are very poisonous substances…we use them in enzyme chemistry to poison enzymes, those vital agents in the body. That is the reason things are poisoned; because the enzymes are poisoned and that is why animals and plants die.”
Saliva has everything it needs for teeth health. Saliva’s normal fluoride level is 0.00001. What are some natural ways to weaken and/ or kill oral bacteria? Epsom salt water rinse, Tooth and Gum Tonic, Tea Tree Oil, Colloidal Silver, Oregano, Ozone, Bentonite Clay and 2% Lugol’s Iodine.
We should have never started water fluoridation in our water supply. The FDA classifies fluoride as a drug yet forcing Americans to take a drug without informed consent is unethical. Consumers of the public water system are unable to control dosage (unless you can afford a filtration or reverse osmosis system), we cannot control who gets the water and it violates informed consent. We have established that there is no reason to swallow fluoride. It is not an essential nutrient and there is not a single biochemical process in our bodies that require fluoride to function. Fluoride is known to harm many biological processes as it inhibits enzymes and unravels proteins.
It is interesting to see what mother nature intended as healthy for babies to consume in regard to fluoride levels. Mother’s milk always delivers a very low fluoride concentration to baby, 0.004 ppm. Therefore, a formula fed baby gets 175-300 times what nature intended. A mother can be loaded with fluoride but the breast will filter the fluoride and the baby will receive only 0.004 ppm in breast milk.
We know that fluoride supplementation violates the heart of biology. There is no difference in cavities in fluoridates vs. non-fluoridated communities yet the higher fluoridated communities show lower IQ, skeletal fluorosis, correlated to infertility and tremendously affects the developing brain. There are over 100 studies that show the fluoride is harmful to the brain, inhibits learning and memory. Dr. Phyllis Mullenix’s work in rats shows hyperactivity when fluoride is given prenatally and postnatal exposure results in hypoactive behavior. She also revealed that fluoride accumulates in the brain. Twenty-six out of twenty-seven studies in China show lower IQ in higher fluoridated areas. Interestingly, lower income areas did not show lower IQ level due to breastfeeding.
We know there are better, safer ways to fight tooth decay and that fluoride’s toxic effects are worsened by a poor diet. As a dentist, it is my duty to educate my patients on oral hygiene, diet and emphasize the importance of regular checkups.
